The table below
is a compilation of the data reported by Louis in the English
version of “Researches on the effects of bloodletting in
some inflammatory diseases”. In the English version of the
book some typographical errors present in the French version have
been corrected. You can use these data to re-analyze Louis’s
study either as a “case-control” comparison, using
the outcome as the fixed variable, or as the follow-up of patients
with either early (1-4 days) or late (>4 days) bleeding after
onset of disease. Using the variable duration of disease, you
may also perform a survival analysis, as in Morabia
(1996) and in Hill
(1997).
Column 1:
Duration of disease (days)
Column 2:
Outcome 0=alive (n=50), 1=dead (n=27)
Colum 3: Bleeding
